Stig Gilbert was born in the United Arab Emirates to a Kiwi father and a Norwegian mother, who quickly moved to the USA. He began taking piano lessons at the age of five while he was still living in Houston, Texas. He moved twice before heading to college, living for five years in Australia from 2003-2008 before returning to Denver in the USA. He attended New York University in New York for two years after completing high school, but financial reasons forced him to leave study there.
He spent a year at the Beijing Language and Culture University on a scholarship to learn Chinese, an activity he still enjoys greatly. While there, he decided to come to the University of Auckland, where his father had gone to school, to get a degree in Classical Piano Performance. He is now entering his second year at the University, and is excited and happy to share his love of music and the piano with new students!
